2009 – My photo year in review plus a new contest
Posted on 11. Jan, 2010 by Paul Burwell.
I was sitting back the other day contemplating what a great year 2009 had been. 2010 is going to have to be pretty spectacular to upseat it, but I’m optimistic. My year, like my life, largely revolves around photography and I thought it might be useful to run through the time line and hit on a few of the highlights…

Canon 5D Mark II Autofocus Sucks? NOT!!!
Posted on 21. Oct, 2009 by Paul Burwell.
I’ve recently had the opportunity to start going through some of my pictures that I made during my recent Spirit Bear Tour. While I normally prefer to photograph with my Canon 1Ds Mark II, I decided to take a chance and exclusively use my new Canon 5D Mark II for the majority of the trip. September Update – Wolves, Lynx and Leopards!
Posted on 08. Sep, 2009 by Paul Burwell.

If you’ve never been to this area of the world you really owe yourself a visit. It is truly a remarkable area of the continent with a huge variety…

February Update – Foxes, we got foxes!
Posted on 18. Feb, 2009 by Paul Burwell.
My last update featured some foxes I’d managed to find and this update continues that focus with some images from another fox den. The images in today’s update were made alongside a sparsely travelled secondary highway around Mayerthorpe in Alberta. On my first journey to find the fox den, I was treated to a spectacular thunderstorm that literally shook and rattled my vehicle while it…

My Winter Wildlife Photography Workshop had a total of six participants plus myself. It was a really great group of people from a wide range of backgrounds from all over North America. During the workshop the participants photographed a…

Locations: Elk Island National Park
Posted on 04. Dec, 2008 by Paul Burwell.
One of my favourite places to photograph is Elk Island National Park. It sure isn’t the largest of the Canadian national parks and it is largely ignored, both by the public and by the organization responsible for running and maintaining it. You won’t find a quaint little town at Elk Island like you will in Jasper or Riding Mountain, and there’s really very little vehicle access into the park.
