Legend of the “Spirit Bear”
Posted on 05. Oct, 2009 by Paul Burwell.
For many years, the Spirit Bear was considered a legend of the Gitg’at and Kitasoo Native Peoples. Raven decided to set aside a special area of the world for these bears – now known as the Great Bear Rainforest. It was a remote paradise where the bears were to live…

What’s riding shotgun while you’re driving?

As a dedicated wildlife photographer, I often use a telephoto lens. My favourite lens for wildlife photography is Canon’s 500mm F4L IS lens. Without questions it is a beautiful lens. But, it’s also quite heavy. Together with my 1Ds Mark II and maybe a teleconverter or two, it can weigh well in excess of 12 pounds.

One of my favourite experiences photographing wildlife in the last couple of years was a visit to the RMGR just outside Riding Mountain National Park near Onanole, Manitoba, Canada to photograph the Black Bears. I managed to get there 3 different times over the year; May, June and September.
